"The music of Ben Kass, in my mind, is not only very original, personal and colourful, but also very expressive. At the same time it is contemporary romantic. If you choose to believe me I should say a new Robert Schumann was born!... I'm also sure that his music will appeal to a large audience, as his music comes from the heart. Strongly recommended!"
Piet Swerts, Belgium's most celebrated composer.
Ben is working on two different CDs these days. The first is lighthearted and unique music written for piano, percussion and electronic instruments developed by Ben himself. The second is the complete opposite - a collection of massive and breathtaking cues for cinematic trailers.
Ben also just finished composing music for "The Carry Calendar," a Belgian comic TV show staring Carry Goosens, a well know Belgian actor. In addition to that, Ben recently worked alongside director Nico Sabenorio on the trailer of "The Einstein Plan," a political play starring James Cromwell (L.A. Confidential, Babe, Irobot).
Together with Conception - a Belgian production company - Ben composed the music for several commercials, infomercials, sketch comedies etc.
Ben's last CD "New Age - Old Man" and several other cues for piano solo are licensed worldwide by Underground Music, a high quality music library.
With years of experience as a concert pianist and working with Digital Audio Workstations, sequencers and sampled acoustics, Ben brings together the modern and the classical in perfect musical balance.
Ben began his musical journey by falling in love with a piano when he was 6. A year later he started studying the piano and when he was 15, he was invited to study at the Juilliard School of Music. He moved to New York when he was 16 and after graduating, he moved to Europe to further his studies.
While working on his post graduate degree in Holland, when he was only 22, Ben gave concerts with both classical repertoire and his own works. At the Vredenburg concert hall in Utrecht, Holland, he performed Mozart's piano concerto KV415 with his own cadenzas.
Ben was awarded several prizes and distinctions. In 1995 he received the “Rotary Club International” Award in Tel Aviv, Israel. In 1998 he became a member of the “Carlo Van Neste Foundation” in Brussels, Belgium and in 2001 he was awarded the prestigious Huygens Award in The Hague, Holland, for excellence in his Post-Graduate studies.
Ben currently resides in Los Angeles, California and is loving every second of it.
